Arrambam by Vishnuvardhan (Review)

********************Spoiler Alert*******************************************

Story:An usual story of gaining justice over past incident. Can be said modern adaptation of "Citizen" with a different theme. Lack of originalty in terms of story. But it has good elements of Action, Thriller and Drama. A small scope for romance but it was just nice for the movie. The movie was made meatier with some technological terms (Not so advance), bomb defusing, and strategy plans. But still it maintained it's traditionality like hero's flashback and so on.

Cast: Ajith Kumar@Thala played Ashok@AK. He is played a stylish character. Cant reveal much about his role but it was definitely usual less talk more action type of character. He did that several times before in a few movies, so you won't see a different thala in this movie. But still he will keep you attended throughout the movie. Nayanthara played Maya, the heroine. But it was not defined whether she was Ashok's lady love. She played a supportive character for Ashok and plays glamourous and badass when needed. Arya is the second lead in the movie. He played Arjun the professional hacker in this movie. He was an important backup for this movie. Eventhough the movie Thala-centered but he had ample of scope and role to perform in this movie. His comedy was a bit overdone at first but it gets better along the movie. Tapsee played Anita, Arjun's lady love. She played a a journalist with drama queen character nature. she was really good at it and was a good pair for Arjun. The movie antagonist was played by Atul Kurkani as corrupt police and Mahesh Manjrekar as Corrupt Minister. Rana Dagubati made a very significant cameo. It was totally worth watching him in action in Tamil Movie. And then there were a few supporting characters played by Krishna, Kishore, Akshara Gowda and many others.

Screenplay: Just like every other Vishnuvardhan movie, it was totally action packed movie. Eventhough the story was an usual one but the screenplay was different for tamil movies. There were a lot of shooting scenes and stunt acts which will grab your attention. Just like every other vishnuvardhan movie, this movie had green tint photography. The whole movie cinematography had green shade. The movie had good plotting where you wont feel like it is dragging too much. Every scene made important and every character has it's own role. None were superceded onto each other except a tiny role played by Malaysian Artist Haani Shivraj. she had two blur scenes. This movie is definitely not a swordfish movie remake as claimed by many. The scenes involving planning strategies and cop investigation were fast and reasonable. Did not have that much of illogical elements. There were flaws in the movie's flashback scene towards the end. How Nayanthara and Ajith survived was a bit lame. But it was just a tiny flaws. Traditionality still maintained in bomb defusing (Cutting coloured wires). Good BGM boost the feel of style in the movie. Dialogues were superb and worth accolades. The movie was intended to spread a valuable message about corruption. The En fuse poche song was cute and well visualized. Other songs were great as well. But Hare Rama Hare Krishna song was missing in the movie. Besides if the song was there, it would have made the movie draggy. The climax was kind of cool. A movie with true commercial value.

Music: Composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja. The songs were already a chartbuster. The BGM was superb

Plus Point: Screenplay, Cast, BGM, Dialogues, Action sequence, Song sequence.

Minus Point: Cliche in story and Cinematography.

Verdict: Stop making research on the logics and enjoy the movie for its action and commercial value. worth watching in cinema.

Mela Thiranthathu Kathavu by Karthik Shamalan (Review)

Story: First time giving review for a Malaysian Movie. A thriller story on violence against women. Something new in Malaysian Tamil Movie Industry. The director had placed ample of romance, drama and suspense elements in this movie. The good thing about the movie is that it was customized for local audience in terms of lifestyle. Simple but impactful story.

Cast: Since it was female oriented movie, the main cast was Joy Rasan. She played Swashna, an independent  and workaholic a girl. first half she did well in showing how sneaky she is when it comes to handling her boyfriend and messed up big time through petty things. But second half acting as a traumatic girl, she was the "woman of the match" I guess. I don't think any other local actress did as natural as her.Especially when she raged towards the journalist. the speech was clear regardless of boiling emotions. Hats off. Vinash Mitra as Matthew, Swashna's boyfriend. He had this funny accent when he speaks. I'm not sure whether it was intentional by the director or he really does have that accent but some scenes the speech could not be delivered well. But one thing worth appreciating was his emotions. Matthew manage to carry out his anger and disappointment excellently. His dialogues might not be right but his expressions were priceless. Kuben Mahadevan as Maaran the antagonist. Trust me he was epic. never seen that in any local movies. Needs a lot courage to do that type of role. Less dialogues and more actions. He really resembled the hardcore negative character with his gestures. There were a few supporting characters like Pd Sara, Yotesri Shanmugam and Jaya Ganason.

Screenplay: It was very good effort for a first timer. The dialogues were well written. Most mistakes Malaysian film dialogues are they try to imitate Indian Tamil films. But in this movie the dialogues were like usual Malaysian conversational dialogues. And some part were straight forward which suited the scenes. In terms of Cinematography, the shades were relevant with the story. It was dark and manage to boost up the elements of suspense. But there were scenes where angles were well positioned. Couldn't see the characters wholly. Sound engineering was fair. Because the speech and specific sounds were overlapping the surrounding. But the BGM was awesome, really aligned with the scenes. The directors best achievement is to make the key role to act naturally. And Karthik manage to do that. Hats off bro. And the "Peygal Manil" song as time lapse video, was good effort, ice cream melting and Joy was constant while others moving. it was awesome.

Music: Composed by Sameshan Mani Maran, 3 songs and Adaimazhai was sweet and nice.

Plus Point: Screenplay, Cast , BGM, Dialogues and Story

Minus Point:Sound Mixing and Camera Angle. It was a bit draggy

Verdict: Watch this at cinema and have a new experience in local cinema.

Vanakkam Chennai by Kiruthiga Udayanidhi (Review)

Story:A romantic comedy with usual story of fights of differences becomes love. The story is just like some bollywood love movie with good feel of romance, comedy, drama and sentiments. Similar to May Madham but with some additional story line to make it look meatier. A feel good story to make you feel loved.

Cast: Mirchi Shiva as Ajay@Madasamy, A rural boy who moves to Chennai for profession. Unlike his usual mokka performance there are some improvement. But still there are a lot of space for improvement. He really needs to go to acting school to pour some emotions in screen. Priya Anand played Anjali, a NRI from London and a professional Photographer. She was so hot and well represented her role. She maintains the accent in order to convince the audience she is from London. And of course her grooming was good to show her as an urban girl. This was her best movie to date. Santhanam handled the comedy as Narayanan@Billa. He was not the main attention in terms of comedy surprisingly since his role starts only in second half. Rahul Ravindran as Deepak, Anjali's fiance from London. He was just a touch and go character and also the turning point of the movie. And there are some supporting characters like Nizhalgal Ravi as Priya Anand's Father, Renuka as Shiva's mother, Nassar as Colonel  Balasubramaniam, Oorvasi, Manobala and many others

Screenplay: Kudos to Kiruthiga for an excellent screenplay. She did very well for a first timer. You can hardly find flaws in terms of screenplay. the Location in thenni was superb. she just fit in all very important elements that needed for a romantic movie like good location, good music and the dialogues. The dialogues were good but just that some were not well presented by shiva. The song clips were awesome especially oh penne penne song. Good BGM's to keep the feel of love going. Hats off to Director of Photography, he had done well done job on showing the rural beauty and urban shades. The climax was a bit of cliche but that was not a trade off for the whole movie. Overall well done job for the team.

Music: Composed by Anirudh, and all were chartbusters especially oh penne and osaka.

Plus Point: Screenplay, Cast, BGM, Cinematography, Dialogues and Story

Minus Point:Shiva's acting

Verdict: Watch this at cinema and feel good.

Naiyaandi by Sargunam (Review)

Story: A story with rural background. It resembles a lot sargunam's first movie Kalavaani at first. Nothing much can be said about the story of the movie. It was meant to be commercial with lots of comedy, drama and action. But the movie was still lack of good plotting. I think the director is out of idea after Vaagai Sooda va. Since it's dhanush movie, audience will expect some rich narration in the movie.

Cast: Dhanush played chinnavaandu, nothing is impossible kind of role. All  of us know how good he is in acting but there was not much scope for him to show his skills in this movie. More like instant village boy who is ambitious about his love. Some of his reactions in second half will make you laugh your lungs out. Nazriya played Vanaroja, bubbly and pampered heroine character. But this movie doesn't sync with her bubbly character. I believe this movie requires more matured village character which challenge the hero character.  But maybe she can get people's attention with her cute look. Other than that Vanaroja wont stay in people's mind for long. And the we have Soori to handle the comedy. I would say he is a mixture of Vivek and Vadivelo. He get himself in trouble and come up with good catchy dialogues which makes us laugh as well. Vamsi Krishna played the role of the Villain. For me he does have a good badass look. But he don't have that many scenes in the movie. And there are quite a lot of supporting characters like Sriman, Pyramid Natarjan, Satyan and Imman Annachi.

Screenplay: This is a major fall for National Award winner like Sargunam and Dhanush. Only good things about the movie was the second half comedy. All the romance and action scenes were ridiculous. Too many commercial elements. Songs not aligned with the movie. Too much of cliche I would say. Mixture of Kalavaani and a few of dhanush past movies. Even the cinematography were outdated, felt like watching 90's movie.

Music: Composed by M.Ghibran. Only Teddy Bear sticks in mind. Others were just a passing cloud.

Plus Point: Comedy

Minus Point:Story, Screenplay, Music, Cinematography

Verdict: Not a good movie to watch at cinema.

Raja Rani by Atlee (Review)

Story:A romantic comedy with heavy star cast. Multi-narration plot with sweet and soothing moments. Full Love, romance, comedy and dramatic moments. Usual story of love after marriage, not to say it is a fresh effort. But this type of movie didn't come up for a very long time. It definitely keep you entertained for 2 and 1/2 hours.

Cast: Arya is back with a comical role. He plays John, a pesimistic character due to his past incidents. Arya hardly does romantic movies, this can be a very good platform to show his lover boy look. He did what he does in most movie, making people laugh with his expressions. Nayanthara played Regina, Johns wife. A very serious and straight forward character. Arya and Nayathara has a good chemistry. It was a great come back for her. Jai plays Surya. His role was similar to his previous movie engeyum epothum. He definitely will make you burst out of laughter. Nazriya is the second lead named Keerthana. A very cute and bubbly character. Her Cuteness is just too damn high. Her character is the turning point of the movie. And there are few supporting characters like Satyaraj as Nayanthara's father, Santhanam as Sarathy and etc.

Screenplay: Of course in cinema world there should hardcore action and some softcore romance. After so long this is a very soft and light romantice movie in lines with Jillunu Oru Kathal. Good Cinematography, the shading and lighting was good. It created a good mood and feel for the movie. Screenplay and dialogues were enjoyable. But there were some repetitive dialogues that is not consistent with the timeline. 2 different people with no relation saying out same dialogue doesnt make sense. But that is just a minor flaws. Some scenes were nothing new to indian cinema like climax airport scene. But it is nice to see those type romance after so long. But the love, message, comedy and BGM is great mixture of good entertaining movie. Good job for a first-timer. Kudos

Music: Composed by GV Prakaash Kumar. Major plus point of the movie. but Angyaage song went missing.

Plus Point: Screenplay, Cast, BGM and Story

Minus Point:Minor Dialogues issues, Some usual indian movie scenes, a little bit draggy.

Verdict: You may watch this in cinema if you liked Jillunu Oru Kathal. It gives the same feel

Neram by Alphonse Putharen (Review)

Story:A rich story with multiple characters and the connection between them. A good romance, thriller, comedy and action. Well planned narration and a good way to pass the message to the audience. The plotting were similar to Aaranya Kaandam, how one character get involved with each and every key characters in the movie. The conclusion was kind of epic. Well done job for a newcomer.

Cast: The youtube viral "Nenjodu Cherthu" song pair Nivin Pauly and Nazriya Nazim were casted as the lead characters in the movie. Nivin Pauly played Vetri. He did quite good for a debutant. Very good body language and acting. Well played action scenes full of energy. overall it was a good beginning. Nazriya Nazim played Veni. She is so cute and a good choice of lead lady. The chemistry worked very well for both of them. Dialogue presentation was good since she is well versed in Tamil. Unlike many actresses who cant even speak tamil and spoil the lip sync. A supportive character for the movie. And then we have Simhaa who is going places with Naalaiya Iyakunar directors movies like Pizza, Kathalil Sothapuvathu Epidi and Soothu Kavvum. He played Vatti Raja, a badass loan shark and one of his best performance. He had his own punch dialogue or tagline in this movie. He is the main villain and an Important booster for the movie. John Vijay played S.I. Kattu Kunju. He did what he does best, a comical police officer. Well played. RJ Ramesh Thilak as a pickpocketer by the name Lighthouse. He is the turning point of the movie. And then we have a cameo by Nassar and a few supporting characters like Thambi Ramaiah, Charlie, Ananth Nag, Shabareesh Varma, Crane Manohar, Deepak Nathan and many more.

Screenplay: One of the best screenplay I've watched in recent times. So many characters and the director manage to link them accordingly in a day event. The interconnection were well planned, hardly can see a flaws there. The director manage to place good level of balance in romance. thriller, comedy and action. None of it overlap each other. Very good editing. it was done by the director himself. without the editing the movie is nothing. Good transitions for each and every scene. The cinematography deserves credits. Good shade of colours and angles. The best is chasing scenes, the camera movement was superb. The were quite a lot of slow-motion in this movie. This is something you will come across in Malayalam movies. Since the director is a malayalee and the movie was made in both Tamil and Malayalam, the touch is there. But the slow-motion did suit certain scenes but not all. The first half was slightly draggy but the second half was energetic till the end. He added both slow and fast elements to show high and low of the movie. The BGM is another booster for the movie. It really gave life for the scenes. Especially the "Pistah" soundtrack, really made the scenes energetic. Kaathal Enulle also well picturized. Cute and romantic. And finally the director manage deliver the message clearly to the audience. After every bad time there's always a good time.

Music: Composed by Rajesh Murugesan, it was awesome. good sense of music.

Plus Point: Story and plotting, Screenplay, Cast, Editing, Cinematography, Music

Minus Point:Draggy first half, unnecessary slow-motion

Verdict: You may watch this in cinema if you liked Aaranya Kaandam way of narration. But this movie has good commercial value and everyone would enjoy it.
