Oh Kadhal Kanmani by Mani Ratnam (Review)

Story: A contemporary love story with heavy Mani's touch. Again a trend setting movie. A great way to distinguish perception of current generation and olden days love. A very creative way to show the importance of Marriage. Each and every characters were well developed. The narration was simple and impactful. A little bit of Mani Ratnam stereotype here and there but that's what special about it. Good Romance, Drama and Comedy.

Cast: Dulquer Salman played Aadi. A very happy-go-lucky character. A mixture of Arjun(Ayitha Ezhuthu) & Kathik(Alaipayuthey) character. Very well played. Charming and expressive. He managed to show how a common guy react to most circumstances. He is the next big thing in Mollywood and Kollywood. Nithye Menen as Tara. Very cute and bubbly character. One of the best acting I've seen after so long. Why I say so, because with a mild expression she managed to portray so many reactions to circumstances. She flirts without flirting, she loves without loving, she cares without caring and the best part is the climax sequence whereby she bursts without she realizing. So realistic. You cant see her flirting in the introductory scene but she does in a way that how a common girl does without showing it. Prakaash Raj as Ganapathy Uncle. An interesting old man character. A bit old school but loving. Of course well played. No doubt in that. Leela Samson as Bavani aunty. She was an angel. She is one important driving factor of the movie. I cant imagine the movie without that character. There were a few supporting characters played by Ramya Subramaniam and others.

Screenplay: The team didn't get old at all. Eventhough it was nostalgic to watch the lense work but P.C Sreeram sir nailed it by creating the perfect shades for the perfect mood. The beauty of the movie is the screenplay. The scenes were so soothing be it songs or romance. The scenes were well planned whereby the transition will keep you waiting for the next scene. But there were couple of scenes kind of touch and go. But yet it was immaterial. Bavani aunty scenes were so sweet and lovely. Rahman's music added flavour to the movie. The movie had good mixture of colours throughout the journey. First half was a fairy tale love and then gets realistic in second half. At the end of the day it's about why marriage is important and Mani sir managed to deliver it perfectly. You'll be in OK Kanmani fever for a few days after watching the movie.

Music: Composed by A.R.Rahman, Chart buster.

Plus Point: Story, Screenplay, Cast, Music and Cinematography

Minus Point: Small buffers in sequences.

Verdict: Love story of the era. Watch it and fall in love again.

Kochadaiyaan by Soundarya Rajinikanth (Review)

Story:Fictional epic fantasy. Revolves around 2 ancient kingdom but centralized in one character. Full of vengeance, drama, inspiration and political message. Just a usual Indian warrior story with some mass effect of course due to Rajinikanth. Good plotting and climax.

Cast: (Since it is a motion capture characters I cant say much about their acting) Superstar Rajinikanth as Rana, Sena and Kochadaiyaan. His voice and gestures will be treat for his fans. I really loved the Kochadaiyaan character. Seems very principled. Deepika Padukone as Rana's lover Vadhana. And then we have all the supporting characters played by Aadhi, Jackie Shroff, Nassar, Shobana, Sarath Kumar and many others.

Screenplay: The movie will have all the entertainment that needed for a commercial movie. Since it is fictional fantasy and more of an animation (eventhough they deny it is an animation) therefore cant expect much of logic in the movie. Good thing about the movie it had good dialogues. Certain dialogues will give you goosebumps. The fighting scenes were quite good especially the climax war scene. It seems like finally our Superstar gets into real action. Songs were good but the transitions were quite poor. Songs will be cramped in short time. One of the disappointment for me is this is not the best intro for our superstar. He had better opening in his earlier movies. And last but not least the graphics. regardless of being new attempt which should be appreciated, the face details were quite poor. The eyes especially, certain scenes seems like the character having squint eye. Even though it is a motion capture work, It is seems like usual ramayana and mahabaratha 3D animation. But overall it will be quite entertaining to watch, just like watching pixar and dreamworks movies. Good effort anyway.

Music: The music composed by A.R.Rahman, no compromise an added advantage. The BGM will definitely give you goosebumps.

Plus Point: Story, Screenplay, Music and Fight Sequence and Dialogue

Minus Point: Graphics and song transitions

Verdict: A family entertainer to be watched by all.

Kadal by Mani Ratnam (Review)

Story: The story revolves around a character at a fisherman village. The theme was more towards a war between an angel and a devil. A hero centric movie and filled up with a lot of religious responsibility studies. Good mixture of Drama, Action, Romance and Thriller. Awesome storyline to enjoy every single rational behind it. Christianity was a backbone for the movie.

Cast: Gautham Karthik (son of yest year hero Karthik) played Thomas the lead man. An excellent performance for a beginner. His body language as an adolescent fisherman deserves credits. Good looking and he is prospective lead star. Thulasi Nair (Daughter of Yest year heroine Radha) Played Beatrice a childish and naive girl. But she did not have much scope to perform. Was just average looking girl with average performance. But her character was crucial. And then we have Arvind Swamy as Father Sam. Godfather of Thomas. a great comeback for him after years of break. he is still the best in terms of acting. proved he is always Mani's boy. Arjun in a totally different Shade. He is the Antagonist of the movie. It is good to see Arjun in this attire, you wont see usual Arjun in this movie. A character who claims himself as Satan. Meaningful supporting characters played by Ponvanan, Lakshmi Manchu, and many others. Lakshmi Manchu was there for a very short time but she was the turning point in the movie.

Screenplay: Mani is back with his cup of tea. Screenplay is the key word. The movie had an awesome screenplay. Seriously the Mani style is back. We didn't seem to get the same feel in Raavanan. A very important plus point was the dialogues & language usage. Simply superb. Every scene will gain your attention. The Intro scenes of the main character and the collage was artistic. But it was a bit musical when comes to romance. especially Adiye Song was not well picturized. And the editing of course was well aligned with screenplay. But there were glitches at the end when there is a big question mark what actually happened to Heroine in the climax. A very well taken scene was the climax fight scene. The sea storm scene looked so realistic. The message was clearly delivered. yet the very last scene was predictable. The BGM was a bid plus point to boost up the scene.

Music: Composed by A R Rahman. 200% good.

Plus Point: Story, screenplay, cast, acting, editing, climax.

Minus Point: Adiye song, too musical romance scenes, small editing glitches.

Verdict: Awesome movie. Can be said Commercially good as well.. Worth watching more than once in cinema.
