Kaaka Muttai by M.Manikandan (Review)

Story: A photo-realistic movie with slum backdrop . Very engaging narration. The story had different spectrum of characters and perception of life each with their own life goal. The pattern of the plot was smooth, not complicated and very sweet to watch. Good family value, humour, and messages. Child-centric story in-line with pasanga and thanga meengal. A true masterpiece.

Cast: Ramesh and Vignesh played the lead role. Super adorable and soothing. well performed. Very realistic and they deserve the national award. Iyshwarya Rajesh as their mother. The typical slum mother image but very convincing with speech and dialogue deliverance. Very well performed young mother character. Babu Anthony played grey role, an almost antagonist. Not much of scope to perform yet he did well for his character. Supporting characters played by Ramesh Thilak, Yogi Babu and many others. Not many casts in this film since it was centralized on main few characters.

Screenplay: It's not easy to bring out the right emotion from a child artist. But the director succeeded. The scenes had good continuity and no exaggeration. Dialogues were raw, how it should be for a slum community. The good things about the movie, the director were more engaged in bringing out the performance of the actors rather than masala factors. He justifies the relevance of the scene for each transitions. Not lengthy just nice. A movie to be watched with family.

Music: Composed by G.V.Prakaash. Nice and soothing. But didn't play that much of a role in the movie

Plus Point: Story, Screenplay, Cast and Acting

Minus Point: Very minimal cliche

Verdict: Tip top family entertainer.

Komban by M.Muthaiah (Review)

Story: A rural subject in lines with Paruthi Veeran, Kizhakku Chemaiyile and Pasumpon. A story centered on the protagonist, a typical village brave-heart. A lot of family value instilled. But too many cliche.Felt like watching 90's Napoleon movie. Full of village violence, romance, family drama and comedy here and there. An outskirt fight for injustice with a very good message on family value and respect.

Cast: Karthi played Kombaiyapandian@Komban. A very rough and tough village character similar to his Paruthi Veeran character. But the difference was this character is more concern on village justice. Well played since it is not something new for him. He carried out the character very well. Lakshmi Menon played Pazhani, Karthi's lady love. Her presence was pleasant. A sweet village girl and lovely daughter. Had an important role for the flow of the movie. Rajkiran as Muthaiya, he was the man of the match. His performance was superb. He manage to carry out a lot of scene with impact. He played a caring father as well as bad ass man. A lot of supporting characters played by Kovai Sarala, Thambi Ramaiyah, Karunas and others.

Screenplay: The movie had good intro and flow for first half, but it starts getting draggy in second half. It's just that the subject was kind of old school relating to many of 90's village based movies like Seevalaperi Pandi. The scenes involving Rajkiran and Karthi was soothing to watch, but the climax spoiled it. Loved the dialogues. The analogies and accents in the movie was realistic. Fight scenes were average and exaggerated at many scenes. But too many unnecessary fight scenes.

Music: Composed by G.V. Prakaash, was just average. Not his best work

Plus Point: The acting, moral message and dialogues

Minus Point: Draggy first half, lack of originality and unnecessary fight scenes

Verdict: Can be watched once

Irumbu Kuthirai by Yuvaraj Bose (Review)

Story: A racy suspense thriller. The story was superbike oriented which explained in title itself. A very good plot with ample of action, romance and sentiment. But lack of importance on dialogues and illustration. Lack of originality, manage to find a few Hollywood movie narration in it.

Cast: Atharva Murali as Prithviraj. He plays a youth trying to go through his dark past. His performance was similar to MUK. But he improved on romantic part. Priya Anand as Samyuktha, sweet and charming as usual. I felt she did her excellently. The accent and her dressing shows she is apt to the role.  Johny Tri-Nguyen played villain Don Stony. Same bad ass features and kicking ass stunts as 7am arivu. A few supporting character played by Lakhsmi Rai, Jagan, Thevadarshini and others.

Screenplay: The movie had a boring screenplay. It is suppose to be an action packed movie but most scenes the director used slow-motion especially staring scenes which was very draggy. And the dialogues was just average. Only good thing was the romantic scene in the movie. Well visualized. But the there were scenes where the director rushed which was kind of a spoiler. And the stunts were also not as expected. Lack of adrenalin rush. And finally the movie made mistake which every kollywood movie makes, poor song transitions. Song visuals comes unnecesarrily and not parallel. Even the camera work was average

Music: Composed by GV Prakaash. The BGM was good. But the songs were not that attractive. Only good song was Ange ippo enna seigirai.

Plus Point: Story, Location, Romantic scenes.

Minus Point: Screenplay, Stunts, Songs

Verdict: Not worth watching in cinema. Just an average twisted story with a reasonable cliché.

Naan Sigapu Manithan by Thiru (Review)

Story:A very well planned plot. Good story based on Narcolepsy, a sleeping disorder. The story was well blended with good romance, drama, action and thriller. Turning point was remarkable for a commercial movie. The narration involves mix of present and flashbacks. First half will be a warm and feel good part and second half gets rough with thriller and action. The way director comes up with solutions to cope up with narcolepsy was kind of creative eventhough not proven medically. It is good blend of science and masala together.

Cast: Vishal as Indiran, a man with Narcolepsy who struggles to live normal daily life. Vishal is a one of the very few actors who can bring life to the character. He really did a great job in this movie. His body language and gestures were just perfect for this role. And when he turns badass, he becomes badass for good. Yes there were a few resemblance with his character in Pandianaadu but not that significant. Laksmi Menon as Meera, Indiran's lady love. She is just an average looking girl but she can really bring up the character well. Moreover her chemistry with Vishal was great. Her supportive nature and judgmental insight in the movie worth watching. Jagan handled the comedy as Satish. No doubt that he is as good as Soori and Santhanam when comes to spontaneous humour. Sunder Ramu as Karuna. He is earlier well known for his character in Mayakkam Enna and Moonu. But this movie is his best performance till now. Other supporting characters played by Saranya Ponvanan, Jayaprakaash, Iniya and many others.

Screenplay: Well the plot doesn't have any significant flaws. Not much buffer between one peak to another. The song transition was good. But yet the movie was quite long. The sequences were organized and can be understood easily. The romance scenes were beautifully canned. The cinematography was good, the colour shades were awesome. The climax was a bit of a spoiler since it seems like the Narcolepsy disappears just like that for a moment. Regardless of having some illogical elements, the director was creative in showing how Vishal copes up with his disorder. The climax fight scene was nice. And the movie instills a lot of moral values to be followed. But the movie got draggy due to second flashback scene. The dialogues were superb.

Music: The music composed by G.V. Prakaash and it was good and soothing. Well visualized as well.

Plus Point: Story, Cast and Screen Play.

Minus Point: Lengthy, some illogical scenes.

Verdict: A good movie to be watched with some mature acceptance.

Raja Rani by Atlee (Review)

Story:A romantic comedy with heavy star cast. Multi-narration plot with sweet and soothing moments. Full Love, romance, comedy and dramatic moments. Usual story of love after marriage, not to say it is a fresh effort. But this type of movie didn't come up for a very long time. It definitely keep you entertained for 2 and 1/2 hours.

Cast: Arya is back with a comical role. He plays John, a pesimistic character due to his past incidents. Arya hardly does romantic movies, this can be a very good platform to show his lover boy look. He did what he does in most movie, making people laugh with his expressions. Nayanthara played Regina, Johns wife. A very serious and straight forward character. Arya and Nayathara has a good chemistry. It was a great come back for her. Jai plays Surya. His role was similar to his previous movie engeyum epothum. He definitely will make you burst out of laughter. Nazriya is the second lead named Keerthana. A very cute and bubbly character. Her Cuteness is just too damn high. Her character is the turning point of the movie. And there are few supporting characters like Satyaraj as Nayanthara's father, Santhanam as Sarathy and etc.

Screenplay: Of course in cinema world there should hardcore action and some softcore romance. After so long this is a very soft and light romantice movie in lines with Jillunu Oru Kathal. Good Cinematography, the shading and lighting was good. It created a good mood and feel for the movie. Screenplay and dialogues were enjoyable. But there were some repetitive dialogues that is not consistent with the timeline. 2 different people with no relation saying out same dialogue doesnt make sense. But that is just a minor flaws. Some scenes were nothing new to indian cinema like climax airport scene. But it is nice to see those type romance after so long. But the love, message, comedy and BGM is great mixture of good entertaining movie. Good job for a first-timer. Kudos

Music: Composed by GV Prakaash Kumar. Major plus point of the movie. but Angyaage song went missing.

Plus Point: Screenplay, Cast, BGM and Story

Minus Point:Minor Dialogues issues, Some usual indian movie scenes, a little bit draggy.

Verdict: You may watch this in cinema if you liked Jillunu Oru Kathal. It gives the same feel

Paradesi by Bala (Review)

Story:The film is based on real life incidents that took place before independence in the 1930s. The film has been adapted from Eriyum Panikadu a Tamil translation of the 1969 novel Red Tea by Paul Harris Daniel which deals with Harris's encounters with enslaved tea plantation workers in the Madras Presidency in colonial India. Another stereotypical Bala movie with primitive characters and slow paced story with an open ended climax. Full of native speech, simplicity, savage, small community of pre-independence and thriller. Exactly the same genre with his earlier movies.

Cast: Atharva dons the role of native newspreader for his village named Rasa. Major makeover from his earlier movies. Of course Bala at his best of making handsome actors as ugly as possible. Quite a lot of scope for Atharva to show is acting skills. A job well done. His speech and body language was well polished. But it's just that we cant see much difference in terms of characterization with other lead characters in Bala's earlier movies. Nothing special or innovative. Then there is Vedhika as Atharva's lady love named Angamma. A cute character with a bubbly role. Of course this is something new for audience seeing her as Angamma since all we have seen her was as Kutty Pisaase. Danshika as maragadham, hutmate and working colleague of Atharva at tea estate. She was shown as an iron lady and a mother of a child in this movie. Her character doesn't differ much with her role in Aravaan. But still she did a very good job throughout the movie. Then we have some supporting character done by Pasupathi, Rithwika, Uday Karthik and many others. Uma Riaz Khan was said to play Atharva's mother but there was not even her shadow in that movie.

Screenplay: True bala fan would say this is a remarkable movie. but as a normal audience we will feel why is he not coming out of the shell. The same shade of story, screenplay, music taste and even cinematography. At one point I was confused whether the music done by G.V.Prakaash or Illaiyaraja. I'm sure this is the director's demand. It can be said a mixture of Pithamagan and Naan Kadavul. Ugly village people who wanted a purpose of life. It ends just like that and audience wont realize it ended. As if there is no conclusion. If there is no conclusion then why pull that story 2 hours? could have end it in 30 Minutes. Only plus point I noticed was realism. The director tried to show beat up scene, village events and the people as realistic as possible. but this not first time he had done that. All his movie has the same theme, of course it would look realistic.

Music: Composed by G.V.Prakaash Kumar. Only on song worth listening. others were just a reflection Director Bala.

Plus Point: Realism and Originality in story

Minus Point: Bala's stereotype(screenplay, music, cinematography,characters)

Verdict: Different story told in the same way. If you have patience to watch Pithamagan,Naan Kadavul, Nantha and Sethu again, then go watch it at cinema. Or else just wait for the DVD rip.
