Mela Thiranthathu Kathavu by Karthik Shamalan (Review)

Story: First time giving review for a Malaysian Movie. A thriller story on violence against women. Something new in Malaysian Tamil Movie Industry. The director had placed ample of romance, drama and suspense elements in this movie. The good thing about the movie is that it was customized for local audience in terms of lifestyle. Simple but impactful story.

Cast: Since it was female oriented movie, the main cast was Joy Rasan. She played Swashna, an independent  and workaholic a girl. first half she did well in showing how sneaky she is when it comes to handling her boyfriend and messed up big time through petty things. But second half acting as a traumatic girl, she was the "woman of the match" I guess. I don't think any other local actress did as natural as her.Especially when she raged towards the journalist. the speech was clear regardless of boiling emotions. Hats off. Vinash Mitra as Matthew, Swashna's boyfriend. He had this funny accent when he speaks. I'm not sure whether it was intentional by the director or he really does have that accent but some scenes the speech could not be delivered well. But one thing worth appreciating was his emotions. Matthew manage to carry out his anger and disappointment excellently. His dialogues might not be right but his expressions were priceless. Kuben Mahadevan as Maaran the antagonist. Trust me he was epic. never seen that in any local movies. Needs a lot courage to do that type of role. Less dialogues and more actions. He really resembled the hardcore negative character with his gestures. There were a few supporting characters like Pd Sara, Yotesri Shanmugam and Jaya Ganason.

Screenplay: It was very good effort for a first timer. The dialogues were well written. Most mistakes Malaysian film dialogues are they try to imitate Indian Tamil films. But in this movie the dialogues were like usual Malaysian conversational dialogues. And some part were straight forward which suited the scenes. In terms of Cinematography, the shades were relevant with the story. It was dark and manage to boost up the elements of suspense. But there were scenes where angles were well positioned. Couldn't see the characters wholly. Sound engineering was fair. Because the speech and specific sounds were overlapping the surrounding. But the BGM was awesome, really aligned with the scenes. The directors best achievement is to make the key role to act naturally. And Karthik manage to do that. Hats off bro. And the "Peygal Manil" song as time lapse video, was good effort, ice cream melting and Joy was constant while others moving. it was awesome.

Music: Composed by Sameshan Mani Maran, 3 songs and Adaimazhai was sweet and nice.

Plus Point: Screenplay, Cast , BGM, Dialogues and Story

Minus Point:Sound Mixing and Camera Angle. It was a bit draggy

Verdict: Watch this at cinema and have a new experience in local cinema.

Vanakkam Chennai by Kiruthiga Udayanidhi (Review)

Story:A romantic comedy with usual story of fights of differences becomes love. The story is just like some bollywood love movie with good feel of romance, comedy, drama and sentiments. Similar to May Madham but with some additional story line to make it look meatier. A feel good story to make you feel loved.

Cast: Mirchi Shiva as Ajay@Madasamy, A rural boy who moves to Chennai for profession. Unlike his usual mokka performance there are some improvement. But still there are a lot of space for improvement. He really needs to go to acting school to pour some emotions in screen. Priya Anand played Anjali, a NRI from London and a professional Photographer. She was so hot and well represented her role. She maintains the accent in order to convince the audience she is from London. And of course her grooming was good to show her as an urban girl. This was her best movie to date. Santhanam handled the comedy as Narayanan@Billa. He was not the main attention in terms of comedy surprisingly since his role starts only in second half. Rahul Ravindran as Deepak, Anjali's fiance from London. He was just a touch and go character and also the turning point of the movie. And there are some supporting characters like Nizhalgal Ravi as Priya Anand's Father, Renuka as Shiva's mother, Nassar as Colonel  Balasubramaniam, Oorvasi, Manobala and many others

Screenplay: Kudos to Kiruthiga for an excellent screenplay. She did very well for a first timer. You can hardly find flaws in terms of screenplay. the Location in thenni was superb. she just fit in all very important elements that needed for a romantic movie like good location, good music and the dialogues. The dialogues were good but just that some were not well presented by shiva. The song clips were awesome especially oh penne penne song. Good BGM's to keep the feel of love going. Hats off to Director of Photography, he had done well done job on showing the rural beauty and urban shades. The climax was a bit of cliche but that was not a trade off for the whole movie. Overall well done job for the team.

Music: Composed by Anirudh, and all were chartbusters especially oh penne and osaka.

Plus Point: Screenplay, Cast, BGM, Cinematography, Dialogues and Story

Minus Point:Shiva's acting

Verdict: Watch this at cinema and feel good.

Naiyaandi by Sargunam (Review)

Story: A story with rural background. It resembles a lot sargunam's first movie Kalavaani at first. Nothing much can be said about the story of the movie. It was meant to be commercial with lots of comedy, drama and action. But the movie was still lack of good plotting. I think the director is out of idea after Vaagai Sooda va. Since it's dhanush movie, audience will expect some rich narration in the movie.

Cast: Dhanush played chinnavaandu, nothing is impossible kind of role. All  of us know how good he is in acting but there was not much scope for him to show his skills in this movie. More like instant village boy who is ambitious about his love. Some of his reactions in second half will make you laugh your lungs out. Nazriya played Vanaroja, bubbly and pampered heroine character. But this movie doesn't sync with her bubbly character. I believe this movie requires more matured village character which challenge the hero character.  But maybe she can get people's attention with her cute look. Other than that Vanaroja wont stay in people's mind for long. And the we have Soori to handle the comedy. I would say he is a mixture of Vivek and Vadivelo. He get himself in trouble and come up with good catchy dialogues which makes us laugh as well. Vamsi Krishna played the role of the Villain. For me he does have a good badass look. But he don't have that many scenes in the movie. And there are quite a lot of supporting characters like Sriman, Pyramid Natarjan, Satyan and Imman Annachi.

Screenplay: This is a major fall for National Award winner like Sargunam and Dhanush. Only good things about the movie was the second half comedy. All the romance and action scenes were ridiculous. Too many commercial elements. Songs not aligned with the movie. Too much of cliche I would say. Mixture of Kalavaani and a few of dhanush past movies. Even the cinematography were outdated, felt like watching 90's movie.

Music: Composed by M.Ghibran. Only Teddy Bear sticks in mind. Others were just a passing cloud.

Plus Point: Comedy

Minus Point:Story, Screenplay, Music, Cinematography

Verdict: Not a good movie to watch at cinema.
