Soodhu Kavvum by Nalan Kumarasamy (Review)

Story:A movie by Naalaiya Iyakunar fame. An awesome commercial storyline. Full of comedy and thriller. well planned twists. Felt like watching panchathanthiram again. Has some resemblance but original story. There are even good action sequence and suspense in the movie. It's a full fledge commercial comedy movie to be watched with whole family.

Cast: Vijay Sethupathi plays the key role. This guy really going places ever since his Pizza, Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom and Thenmerku Paruvakaatru became big hit. He plays a middle age guy by the name dass. very well played. This guy is a star in making. And then we have an unusual comedy trio Simhaa, Ashok selvan and RJ Ramesh Thilak. Without these guys the movie is nothing. Simhaa is well known for his Feared Senior role in Kathalil Sothapuvathu Epidi and the husband ghost in Pizza. From serious character to real comedy piece. what a change over. And then RJ Ramesh Thilak with his local boy role. you will laugh by just looking at his face. Ashok Selvan is a bit intelectual compared to the other two. He has an important role in twisting the story. And the we have Karuna Karan as Arumai Pragasam. He is well known for his character in Kalakalapu, the brother in law of the villain who misses the diamond to prostitute. He is the mastermind and turning point in this movie. Great Job done. Sanchitha Shetty played shalu the imaginary lady love of Vijay Sethupathy in the movie. She is cute, bubbly and hot. She kept the soft pressure going in the movie. Two other characters worth credits are Police Officer Bramma played by Yog Japee and Rowdy Doctor by Aruldass. Yog Japee is the one played Ranjith in Billa. He played a silent bad ass police man in this movie. He has his humour part as well. He really did great as a violent policeman. And Aruldass is the dada in Naan Mahaan Aala if you remember who becomes friend of karthi. He played the rowdy doctor, brother of vijay sethupathi who is directing his own movie. His role was epic eventhough he only shows up in second half. A few supporting role played by M.S Bhaskar, Radha ravi and others.

Screenplay: The screenplay is the hero of the movie. Every single scene is well planned. Great teamwork between the crew and cast. Kudos to them. From the very first scene till the end you'll be laughing your lungs out. All of the scene were taken in a very simple manner without wire tricks and CGI except for one or two scenes. The interconnection between scenes were good. Well done to the editor. The Cinematography was average. The colour tones were similar to Pizza and Kathalil Sothapuvathu epidi. But that doesn't matter since the whole movie is a trade off for the slack. The beauty of the movie is how they rewind the scenes of suspense. It's an awesome job for a first timer. All the nalaiya iyaukanar fames are really doing good movies. The soundtracks goes with the movie except "kaasu panam" song. It has it's own song sequence. The choreography was good for the song. The girls dance very well..

Music: Composed by Santosh Narayanan. Songs were average but the kaasu panam song became a chartbuster.

Plus Point: Story and plotting, Screenplay, Cast, Editing

Minus Point:Average Music and Cinematography

Verdict: If you like panchathanthiram, then watch it at cinema. If you don't, also watch in cinema :P
